Philosophy
Our practice emerges from African atmospheres, as shifting grounds for exploration, marked by a potential that goes beyond conventional development models, using technology as a key driver.
We embody this potential through a respect for the earth, a value shared amongst many African cultures. In turn, sustainability is embedded in our practice, and applied across both material and immaterial dimensions.
Guided by this perspective, we view technology, as well as technique, as a means for inclusive progression, understanding that tools should be sensitively and meaningfully applied to the realities they engage with.
Our application of African principles and logic as a foundation, grounds our design thinking and approach, ensuring continuity, while we shape the futures to come.
Process
Design for us is a layered process which we articulate in four parts — Earthing, Unearthing, Stratagising and Breaking↔Ground.
Earthing
We ground ourselves in relation to a context and its existing conditions — observing with presence and without presumption.
Unearthing
We excavate what lies below the surface to develop a deeper understanding — identifying invisible systems and latent opportunities.
Stratagising
We embed responsive and responsible gestures within the gaps — intervening not as a surface act, but as an accumulation of solutions and narratives.
Breaking↔Ground
We form new design languages and expressions, which, when resonant, may subtly shift from breaking ground to ground breaking.
